Meet Our Staff

Our Staff includes a Clinical Director with over 25 years of experience in clinical and casework services, some of the areas best Qualified Mental Health Professionals (QMHP), counselors, and mentors of the highest quality.  Within the staff there is close cooperation between the specialists that ensures regular consultation services are integrated as necessary into the proper management of each case.

President/Clinical Director 

Dr. Bernard N. Curry, Ph.D., L.C.S.W., C.S.O.T.P., C.C.T.P. has over 25 years of experience in providing clinical and casework services, including adolescent substance abuse services and therapeutic home based services in New York City and in Virginia.  Dr. Curry is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (L.C.S.W.), a Certified Sexual Offender Treatment Provider (C.S.O.T.P.) one of the first in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional.  Dr. Curry has trained for the "Foster and Adoptive Care Training (F.A.C.T.)" organization and the author of the book "What Virginia Teenagers Need to Know Before Striking Out on Their Own."  Dr. Curry has taught at Norfolk State University's School of Social Work and Christopher Newport University's School of Social Work.  He is currently a professor for Strayer University where he teaches Sociology, Psychology and Critical Thinking courses.  Dr. Curry has owned and operated group homes that provided transitional services to Juvenile Sex Offenders returning to the community.  Dr. Curry was awarded a Citizens Meritorious Public Service Award by the Chief of Police, City of Virginia Beach, Virginia, for assisting a police officer by getting an Intellectually Challenged adult male to peacefully leave a well known bookstore.  Dr. Curry received his PhD in Human Services with a Specialization in Social and Community Services from Capella University in July of 2010.  Dr. Curry has been a guest expert on local radio programs as well as a panel member on various topics including intimate partner violence. He has written guest editorials for the local paper about Veterans and the VA and about the Trayvon Martin shooting.

Director of Services

Ms. Natasha N. Curry, L.C.S.W., QBS is the Director of Services (D.O.S.), and assists the President in the formulation and implementation of the policies, procedures, and programs of IHCCS, Inc.  Ms. Curry is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (L.C.S.W.).  She makes recommendations and proposals regarding program needs and makes recommendations for changes in the existing programs and/or the addition of needed services.  Ms. Curry also assists the President in interviewing employment candidates for vacant positions and makes recommendations, as appropriate.  She also provides assistance and support to the President in other areas as needed and acts as liaison with other agencies and points of contact regarding referrals.  Ms. Curry completes intakes and assessments to determine recipient eligibility to receive intensive in home services, mental health support, and psychosocial rehabilitation services.  In the absence of the President, the D.O.S. is in charge.  In addition Ms. Curry provides individual, family, marital, and group therapy as scheduled.  Ms. Curry is bilingual, proficient in Spanish and was granted the state recognized credential of Qualified Bilingual Staff (Q.B.S.).


Program Director (Benny's Place)

Our Program Director, Demetre' Curry, a resident in counseling, coordinates and facilitates groups in Benny’s Place. In addition, he has experience working with individually with youth and adults His personal approach consists of building a client-centered foundation and utilizing Psychodynamic, Humanistic, and Solution-Focused theories to empower clients and promote inner growth. He received his MS Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Old Dominion University. Demetre is currently undergoing supervision hours with the Virginia Board of Counseling.  


Administrative Assistant

Liz Acevedo is in charge of maintaining organization of the IHCCS, Inc. front office, which includes appointment and transportation scheduling, client information management, insurance verification, process billing, and overall supporting the staff counselors and clinicians.   Ms. Acevedo is fluent in Spanish.
